During the two-day workshop,
adult learners participated in sessions that addressed effective
public speaking, developing and making presentations, adult
learner involvement and leadership, conducting interviews with
the media and adult learner advocacy. Two successful former
adult learners, Monica Baxley and Shellie Waters, helped lead
the workshop.
The highlight of the training was when each
literacy ambassadors shared his or her story in a five-minute
presentation.
One of the new Ambassadors, Eva Gardon from
GROWS Family Literacy Council
in Apopka, put her new skills to work Friday, February
16 when she spoke at the
Celebration of Reading, an event that included
President George H. W. Bush, former first lady Barbara Bush and
Governor Jeb Bush.
