Symposiums

Teacher/Tutor Symposiums:

Join us for one of FLC’s free regional symposiums which will provide you with ESOLhands-on teaching strategies and resources. Each symposium will cover the following topics:

ESOL Work Readiness
Using Employability Skills with the English Language Learner

Career readiness involves three major skill areas; academic skills, technical skills and employability skills. With English Language Learners we are covering the academic and technical skills, but are we incorporating the employability skills into our lessons? Are we creating situations in our classroom that students can practice and apply these skills necessary for success in the workplace? We'll look at the U. S. Department of Education's Employability Skills Framework and then explore how to create situations so students can practice skills needed for most employment areas.

ESOL Strategies (Beginning and Intermediate)
Working With the Adult Learner
We know that adult English language learners are diverse in age, education and nationalities. An instructor may sometimes be at a loss in trying to keep the learning process fresh, interesting, fun and targeted to the individual student. This session will provide tips, tricks, strategies and resources that can be used to improve student learning and allow the instructor to develop new skills to foster higher levels of academic proficiency.

Conversational English
Let's Talk About It!
How can we foster oral language development across levels for our English Language Learners?  This session will discuss various strategies and techniques to be used with students to encourage conversational English, knowing that listening and comprehension skills are essential to conversation. Gain knowledge of how to develop listening and speaking skills and practice activities that promote and encourage effective oral language communication both in the classroom and in the community.
