Standards In Action:

Effectively Incorporating Adult Curriculum Standards and Resources to Guide ESOL Instruction

 

For adult educators already well-versed in the contents of the curriculum, the focus shifts towards implementation strategies, leveraging technology for enhanced engagement, and assessing effectiveness to assist students develop critical skills. Yet, curriculum shares one goal: help students learn.


This session will explore the key competencies for 21st Century learners, the “Four Cs”: Creativity, Critical Thinking, Communication and Collaboration as it applies to using the recommended standards such as the English Language Proficiency Standards.


Providing access to high-quality, standards-aligned curricular materials can significantly improve student outcomes. This session will incorporate hands-on activities that can be implemented by any instructor.

Presenter: Veronica Pavon-Baker


Ms. Pavon-Baker is a former Assistant Principal with Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS). She previously worked as a Curriculum Support Specialist for the Bilingual Education Division at M-DCPS and is a Florida State and National CASAS Certified Trainer. Currently, Ms. Pavon-Baker is the Director of Adult Programs at the Literacy Volunteers of Collier County organization.


She has an extensive record in the training profession with experience in adult training and development.
