Strategies Webinar

No Adult Left Behind:
Teaching and Reaching a Multi-Level/Multi-Subject Group

Florida's Adult and Family Literacy Resource Center is pleased to offer this free two-part webinar to all Florida adult education/literacy tutors, teachers, and administrators.

Part 1:
Meeting the instructional needs of individual adult learners within a diverse, multi-level, mixed-subject group setting calls for teachers and tutors to rethink “whole-group lesson.” This session will share strategies to prepare you to be flexible, fluid and learner driven as you develop lesson plans, assignments and approaches to classroom management.
Examples for Part 2 of the webinar will be created from participants’ emailed follow-up activity
Archived on our webinar page.

Part 2:
One group, but not one literacy level? How can adult educators create and teach a single-focus lesson plan to a group of adult learners with a wide range of literacy skills?  Using the topics suggested by Part 1 participants, this webinar presents ideas for finding alternative materials, methods for evaluating the reading level of any print, and suggestions for creating assignments.

                            Date: April 25, 2014
                            Time: 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
                            Cost: Free
(Part 1 session attendance is recommended, but not required to participate.)

Facilitator: Dr. Betsy Stoutmorrill’s professional experience and academic studies related to reading, learning disabilities, exceptional student populations, and adult literacy began in 1989.  She gained knowledge as an advocate for meeting the needs of the individual while serving as a high school special education teacher and literacy coach, ABE/GED instructor, and college professor.  She teaches reading and language arts at Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Pathways adult education program.  Betsy earned her PhD from Walden University in 2009 by completing a qualitative life history research project that captured the stories of adult non- and limited- readers.
